…instead of acquiring “career-ready” levels of scientific information, students at iSchool are receiving an education even educators at the fundamentalist Bob Jones University believe is inadequate.

Wow, you really have to try to get that level of stupid.

re: #1 Ace-o-aces

Wow, you really have to try to get that level of stupid.

The folks at Bob Jones University are probably more concerned about ‘damage to the brand’ than the stupidity itself.

After all, belief in Nessie should be fringe even for RWNJs, and using Nessie in creationist/ID arguments might actually alert people to the total stupidity of the bilge being pushed.

I think the idea of using Nessie as a “proof” against evolution originated with Answers in Genesis and/or Ken Ham, the people who built the Creation Museum in Kentucky.

Interesting that BJU is criticizing A Beka and ACE. The first has been a mainstay of the Christian homeschooling movement for decades.

Disregard my comment #4: AiG did not originate that story.

From Ken Ham’s blog:

And, actually, it is a comment that AiG would not make for a number of reasons. One of our News to Note columns explains some of our reasoning:

The existence of modern-day plesiosaurs, presumably hiding in such places as the ocean deep and even Loch Ness, is sometimes discussed in creationist circles. A living plesiosaur would certainly be a surprise to secular science, which considers them to have gone extinctwith the dinosaurs (although plesiosaurs were not actually dinosaurs, but aquatic reptiles). A carcass reeled in by the Japanese fishing trawler Zuiyo-maru in 1977 was for years the object of plesiosaur-centric speculation, but the carcass was in all likelihood the remains of a basking shark (based on detailed analysis). For these reasons, we recommend against creationists using the story as evidence for extant plesiosaurs. (answersingenesis.org )

For those reasons, we would advise the textbook’s comment be deleted (though the text’s statement itself is tentative nonetheless).

In the same blog, he invokes the MBF, saying that secularists also have wacky ideas, like aliens building the pyramids or bringing life to Earth.

The Nessie reference was supposed to have been deleted in future editions of the ACE text, Biology 1099. au.org

This is why I’m starting to be convinced that local knows best standards on education are bs. When you’ve got religious zealots running the school board…………..
