George Galloway is the only name from that article that I’m even remotely familiar with and, like you, I really don’t know much about him as I don’t follow European politics beyond trying to keep an eye on the far-right.

That said, IMO a person spouting holocaust denial—or denial of any instance of genocide or ethnic cleansing—shouldn’t be allowed to have a position of authority in an organization expects to be respected & taken seriously.

I agree, its hard to imagine how anyone who wasn’t an antisemitic bigot or astoundingly ignorant could have any respect for people like this.

I’m familiar with Galloway. He is indeed far left. So this shocks me that he’d have Nazi sympathizers around him. Never been a big fan of his even when I was more more far left.

Far right or far left, he’s a sick person if doesn’t have a problem with people like this. At the very least I hope Galloway is denounced by other, more rational members of the Labour party over this.

So there’s an allegation that somebody he’s associated with is a holocaust denier. And you all seem very eager to instantly assume that Galloway himself is a denier.
The world is really so clean and tidy that you need to go that far to find a reason to despise someone?

And just so you know: the vast majority of anti-Galloway stories were smears permeated by the Bush administration due to his vocal anti-Iraq war campaigning. They lied through their teeth about him. But because he’s also against the aggression and bigotry of Israel’s far right government and the IDF, apparently that means many people are quite happy to jump on the coattails of the Bush admin’s rather overtly dishonest personal attacks and planted stories in Murdoch media. You need to join the hate-him team that much, that convincing evidence from honest sources is simply not important.

Since when was Galloway Labour? And you’re really that easily led?

re: #3 HappyWarrior

He’s hardly far left. He’d be far left in America, where the Dems are seen as ‘left’ - when in actual reality, in every other country on the planet they’d be centre right.
But of course, the world must be categorized the way Americans want it categorized. Reality be damned.

Okay, so he’s not part of the Labour party. I assumed he was, and I shouldn’t have done that. My bad.

However, it still doesn’t explain why Galloway is still supporting her and hasn’t denounced her.

Especially after stuff like this

I never said Galloway denied the Holocaust.

Even assuming that what you said is true, its still doesn’t justify him working with people like Naz Kahn. Just because people have been spreading false hoods about him and he’s not a holocaust denier himself, how does that excuse this?

It doesn’t excuse it, and of course you never said Galloway denied the Holocaust—no one did—that’s a straw man. Lunging out of the shadows to assault the unsuspecting with personal insults and Gish Gallop flurries of ankle-biting, then angrily demanding that his/her hastily constructed straw men be defended is cinesimon’s preferred tactic.

As far as I can tell, this is reserved exclusively for the Pages where there’s less chance of immediate pushback or a massive group pile-on, both of which would require more more substance & mental agility than simply spewing vituperative nonsense and then running away. Attempting to engage such a person in an honest discussion is a fool’s errand, IMO.

I think can imagine why.

From 1967 until 2003.

Thanks

Now that you mentioned it. I think I heard about him being a member of the Labour party once. I must have just assumed that he still was.
