Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has asked Attorney General Derek Schmidt for a ruling on whether a new state law allowing concealed carry in most public buildings includes polling places.

Polling sites in Kansas are often found in places where guns aren’t allowed, such as churches and schools.

So the only problem is concealed carry? If this is ok, then I assume that there’s no reason groups of visibly armed men couldn’t just wander around the polling places to make sure the voting goes the right way.

Sounds like the way things are done in Third World countries, or Republican states.

So, it’s as though he’s asking if the presence of a polling place trumps its surrounding environment, and I suspect there’s “some ambiguity” in the law precisely for that reason.

I guess the next question would be: what happens if concealed carry is permitted at polling places, after the election equipment has been put away. Will concealed carry still be permitted?

If so, that’s a pretty sneaky way to get past a restriction.
