I hate this kid’s parents so hard. I hope this boy gets far, far, away from these ignorant, paranoid, cruel, Bible beaters.

I at least hope the courts do their job, and not let his parents abuse him like they want to, tell them to pound sand, and leave the law on the books.

Hopefully they’ll be some really smart attorney defending the law, who brings forth as much as scientific evidence as possible that not only does “conversion” or as its sometimes called “reparative therapy” ( which goes a long way to show how these bigots view being gay ) not work, but is inherently harmful. He/she needs to be able argue that the parents’ religious beliefs don’t give them the right to do something that is going to be harmful to the child like this.

What awful parents.

Thanksgiving dinners are going to be awkward from here on out.

This kid has three more years where he’s legally obligated to live at home. I hope he gets support and outreach from people between now and then so that he not only stays alive despite his horrid parents, but that he can move forward in a positive direction without them.

For the child, he needs a support group, like PFLAG. There’ll he’ll find people who won’t judge him (as his parents do) and who will help him make it to his eighteenth birthday, when he can get out from under the thumb of his parents and their belief system.

The sad thing is the kid may already be so brainwashed that he actually wants to go through with the “therapy.” It kind of sounds that way as you read the article.

It also might be difficult for him to get in contact with PFLAG without his bigoted parents finding out.

I would imagine they might have been that way for awhile in this household.

Another way to handle this is to shut down every conversion program those parents manage to find.

re: #9 sauceruney

Good idea. Unfortunately it might be difficult to do, even if the court doesn’t rule in the parents favor. For one thing, if they’re determined enough, they might try to do it, in a clandestine manor without the authorities knowing. His parents may have only have gone the legal route, because they think they can win. If the parents lose they may try extra legal means to get their kid what they think he “needs.”

Let’s hope he isn’t brainwashed and that there’s someone out there who can get him to PFLAG without his parents knowing.

I hope this kid has some good friends or perhaps some other loving relatives.
