“Obamacare does matter but the Democrats have a pretty good gameplay where they will put in a third party libertarian,” he added, referring to Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a connection there,” the former Massachusetts senator declared. “That libertarian, had he not been there, I think the election would have gone to Cuccinelli. Cuccinelli brought about his base, he talked about the things that mattered. Because remember, he was the first attorney general to actually file [a lawsuit against] Obamacare.”

According to The Washington Post, Cuccinelli was able to hang on to the support of 92 percent of Republicans in Virginia, compared to the 95 percent of Democrats who voted for McAuliffe.

“The fact that Democratic voters outnumbered Republican voters by 5 percentage points sealed the victory for McAuliffe,” the Post noted.
