Is there any evidence that Angola has done anything of the sort? The International Business Times quotes the Angolan Embassy as denying the report. The link in the post has gone missing and the only sites I can find are right-wing sites quoting each other.

Theocracy is awesome if it’s done in the name of Christianity. Fischer should move to Angola if he likes this so much.

Angloa did not ban Islam. Now Spencer claims he was against it all the time

jihadwatch.org

I doubted the accuracy of this report from the beginning, and sure enough, it turns out to be false. That is all to the good — banning an entire belief system would just embroil Angola in an ongoing resistance and would become a serious human rights issue. Banning Islam in particular would engulf it in a more energetic jihad than is being waged against it now. And no one who is committed to the freedom of conscience can support such a ban, although the Angolans and everyone else are certainly within their rights to ban and work against elements of Sharia (or any other system) that contradict universal principles of human rights.

This is what Spencer wrote yesterday:

In any case, clearly this is a national security issue, with Islamic supremacists and jihadists wreaking havoc in Nigeria and spreading elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa. There is no way in Angola any more than there is anywhere else to distinguish jihadis in Angola from the peaceful Muslims among whom they move, organize and recruit, and clearly this measure is designed to stop that activity. However, censure from the UN and the world “human rights” community will probably soon compel Angola to change its stance, and allow the jihadis free rein.

It’s like he doesn’t realize we can go back and read his old posts.

Thanks for pointing that out. that’s good news. I’m going to try to fix the link and update the story. Give me a few minutes.

Thanks I just added that info in a second update.

Here’s what Vicious Babushka and I said in response to his bigoted stupidity.

Thanks for posting this, CD. I read about it this morning, but decided to apply the 24-48 hour rule as it seemed pretty far out there.

That said, I’m glad you posted the reactions. You’re absolutely right that the glee with which the so called counter-jihad “patriots” crowed when they assumed it to be true proves they’re nothing more than garden variety bigots.

You’re Welcome! I only wish I could have updated the story and fixed the problems with the link earlier. Unfortunately I left soon after I finished writing this, and only say the first comment about an our later while I was browsing the internet and my I phone and its really hard for me to write on that thing so I had to wait until I got home.

re: #8 CuriousLurker

By the way I also had to fix a mistake in my last comment, before it wouldn’t let me fix it. You should check it again. I posted a link to the same tweet twice by accident.

It all looks good now.

None of us is perfect and you fixed your mistakes. Good job!

But really, is anyone at all surprised? Does anyone with half a brain need yet more evidence of the Geller and Spencer agenda?

Well for one thing, someone might have been dumb enough to use one of the relatively less insane things she wrote as a source without checking first.

People who don’t follow politics and/or who aren’t Muslim tend to be unaware of how toxic they are, which is why they get so furious when CAIR (or other groups) out them when they’re going to speak at “normal” (i.e. non-political) places or events like synagogues or the annual Catholic Men’s Conference.

Also, as one of CD’s other Pages pointed out today, they—in this case Brigitte Gabriel’s ACT! for America—also team up with other bigots & racists and show up in “regular” places like the Kiwanis rec center in North Carolina.

Add to that mainstream cable networks like CNN giving Frank Gaffney a platform as an “expert” and… *sigh*

CNN Brings on Wingnut Islamophobe Birther-King Frank Gaffney as Expert on Iranian Negotiations

Prior to this Saturday’s announcement that an agreement had been reached with Iran over their nuclear program, guess who CNN thought it was a good idea to bring on for a nice “fair and balanced” discussion on how the Obama administration should be handling these negotiations? None other than neocon, right-wing extremist, Islamophobe and birther-king, Frank Gaffney. […]

CriticalDragon: I Googled the story again this morning and found that a newspaper I recognize, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, is finally on it.

In a nutshell, after chasing down the sources of a photo of a mosque purportedly being destroyed by Angolan authorities and trying to verify comments supposed made by the Angolan president & other officials, they basically came to the conclusion that:

Did Angola really ban Islam?

…there isn’t really anything we can comfortably report to be true — besides how many people this ban would affect if it were actually true.

Just gotta say I love Jeff Furlington’s avatar! Although he tends to get overlooked these days, Pertwee was an awesome Dr. And while he tends to get criticized for his alleged “Tory” attitude when he is remembered, no Dr was ever more of a champion of the oppressed or more opposed to prejudice, so it’s fitting his face appears in this thread.

re: #18 hartly

I appears you may have posted to the wrong thread as you seem to be talking about Doctor Who.
