I guess we’re supposed to be shocked that a US soldier is hugging rather than killing a Muslim.

The ad is pretty offensive, actually.

Why so?

Here’s the offensive part:

“If we can keep this couple together, we can keep anyone together.”

That implies it is particularly difficult for a soldier and a Muslima to stay together.

The photo is sweet. It just needs a better caption.

Fuck it. I think some people want to be scared by Muslims. I do aree with WW’s point though. Despite what the RWNJs believe, we’ve never been at war with Islam and Muslims. There were Muslims who were victims on 9/11 too and Al Queda has killed more Muslims than non-Muslims.

If they mean societal pressure or bigotry, I can get that. But between the two in the couple? Right.. that would be a rather harsh assumption.

re: #5 HappyWarrior

Quite so.

Compare this campaign with the recent GAP posters featuring the Sikh guy and the Anglo gal, or the Cheerios commercial with the biracial family. Multiculturalism is the latest thing in advertising. While some still don’t like the idea, the more people see these kind of images, the more accepting they will become of differences between people.

It will just take time. Lots of time.

Uncomfortable, nah. Weird, yes. Not sure why you’d celebrate wearing a tent in public when so many women around the world are forced and/or guilted into donning that symbol of oppression against their will.

One person’s weird is another’s normal. I am not Muslim, but I find your tone really offensive. She’s not wearing a tent. And in the United States, anyway, there are no laws preventing a Muslima from wearing a veil or a chador or regular street clothes in public. Believe or not, some Muslim women choose to follow hijab to express their beliefs. Sure, there are situations where they are obliged to cover themselves in some way (the actual amount of coverage depends heavily on their location in the Muslim world).

I’ll leave it to actual Muslims here to pick your remarks apart further.

It’s serial assholery, therefore not worth the effort. Some examples:

Edit: Oh, and I forgot this thread where it got the attention it apparently craves and kept spewing bile at everyone.
