re: #1 SidewaysQuark

I certainly do not support any policy that would even give the impression that the university would enforce segregation at any event.

That said, I would expect to see comments like that on some bigoted anti Muslim website like Jihad Watch. You at least qualified you’re statement by saying “conservative Muslims” but even than it is far too broad. Conservative has a lot of different meanings.

They don’t meet my standards either - though it’s not political correctness (I’m not very PC as a rule) it’s the accuracy that’s the problem

The people causing problems in UK universities aren’t conservative Muslims - they’re radical Muslims and it’s an important difference

I may not like the typical conservative Muslim’s views on women, gays, etc but I don’t see them as an active threat - more under threat themselves of watching their world and children move on to better things like the conservative Catholics of my parents and grandparents generations.

The radicals are a much smaller but dangerous group - often in conflict with the conservatives. Often converts or embracing a different wahhabist or salafist version of Islam to their parents.

BTW that’s the first thing written by Polly Toynbee I’ve seen that wasn’t utter garbage, she’s usually the worst kind of ghastly leftist hack - even by the Guardian’s standards

Some of the weaker posters here, though, enjoy condoning backwards filth, though, as long as it comes from “another” culture, to make themselves look more cosmopolitan, intellectual, tolerant, and worldly.

Oh, yes. You look so strong when you spill your bigoted opinions. Yes you do.

re: #5 SidewaysQuark

I agree that much of what is known as “conservative” religion really is backwards.

However, I don’t go around calling people trapped in such worldviews “filth”.

re: #8 SidewaysQuark

You have yet to make the case I’m “bigoted”. I’ve made a good case you’re bigoted though, in your enabling of the sexist conservative pigs who want to segregate women from men in public universities.

If you had the intellectual capacity, you’d be ashamed of yourself, wrenchwrench.

I’m not making a case. You are exposing yourself.

And you don’t back up your claim of my enabling anything.

You might have made an impact, SQ, but you always start in with the insults.
Why don’t you try not being an abusive ass, and maybe you’ll actually be able to have productive discussion.

re: #12 SidewaysQuark

Yes, I exposed that I don’t give bigotry and prejudice a free pass just because it hides under the guise of “religion”. By jumping on the bandwagon of sniping at anyone who calls this sort of thing out, you’re enabling the problem. Shameful.

You try to hide yours under the guise of ‘intellectualism’. Makes you look stupid.

Carry on.

re: #9 SidewaysQuark

So, do you want a medal for that?

I prefer gold over silver or platinum for my jewelry, though I could go for an iridium pendant of some kind.

From where does your penchant for personalizing the attacks on backward thinking arise?

And yes, people are trapped by their beliefs - the political structure of the country in which they reside not being the only determining factor here.

It appear as if you really don’t understand people, otherwise you’d know how hard it is to change. To change one’s entire way of thinking and living is asking a lot, and experience shows it is asking too much for many. That is why for new ways to come into a society’s practice the old residents have to die off, literally.

And, the segregating of women from men has been so widely practiced in so many cultures, why is this particular instance an example of “filth”?

It’s even harder for people to change when their problems are enabled. I’m glad you agree conservative religion is a “trap”, though.

And, the segregating of women from men has been so widely practiced in so many cultures, why is this particular instance an example of “filth”?

It’s not okay just because “everyone else is doing it”. It’s bad when anyone does it. When it’s a form of public segregation in education, yes, it is “filth”, every bit as bad as if you were to make black and white people sit on opposite sides of the class.

What’s even worse is the fact that the particular university is considering condoning the practice, when they, of all people, should know better than to advocate causes of those “trapped” in system that includes bigoted beliefs.

Just saying.

Yeah, but Sideways Quark doesn’t understand irony. If he did, he wouldn’t keep latching onto topic about Islam and getting his butt kicked.
