“This sounds suspiciously like a threat”. ?????? Sounds more like a promise to me. Ever hear of a Nickel Ride?

It is a serious problem when just the enforcement of the law and the legal process is punishment enough to ruin you.

Googling the process is the punishment yields almost 8 million hits, including a book with that title…a book published back in 1979.

Record the police when they are on duty.

Recording audio of the police without their permission is a felony in Illinois.

Of course.

I highly recommend* Rise of the Warrior Cop by Radley Balko. I disagree with his perspective on a lot of issues, but the issue of the militarization of domestic law enforcement is not one of them.

*if you don’t mind having your blood pressure raised a bit.

In California I have heard that police AS PART OF THEIR JOB are LEAGLLY REQUIRED to wear glasses with cameras built in, While they are on the job everything they see and say will be recorded.

I see nothing at all wrong with this as it will provide more evidence for trials both of suspects police see and for claims of police brutality/abuse of power.

What are your thoughts on that idea DF?

I’m not exactly fond of it because:

A. Such systems would be overly relied on. Glasses can be knocked off or damaged in pursuit of a suspect or during a struggle. Then the question will be “What happened to the camera?” with a guilty man potentially walking because he damaged the cop’s camera.

B. Sometimes cops need to have conversations with witnesses ‘off the record’ and cameras make that impossible.

C. Rand Paul. Seriously, the level of dudebro freakout such an idea would create is staggering,

The RoboCop or JudgeDred scenarios sure sound profitable for some corporation.

So, I wonder to the possibility of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Our War on Drugs is certainly a farce, but one that is again, profitable and could lead to such scenarios.

No it isn’t. That’s law was overturned by the Supreme Court over a year ago.

CHICAGO — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday delivered another blow to a 50-year-old anti-eavesdropping law in Illinois, choosing to let stand a lower court finding that key parts of the hotly debated law run counter to constitutional protections of free speech.

In that critical lower-court ruling in May, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that the law - one of the toughest of its kind in the country - violates the First Amendment when used against those who record police officers doing their jobs in public.

As public employees conducting the public’s business on public property police officers have no reasonable expectation of privacy. This goes double when they’re on your personal private property. Record the hell out of them, it’s your right and the only responsible way to defend yourself.

The Cops must have been quite stupid, making these threads against an attorney…
