Constitutional education comes to the heartland.

The Satanists actually had a great response when they were questioned about their monument.

Satanists test Oklahoma’s religious freedoms by offering monument

There is some debate as to whether the Satanic Temple is an actual satanic group, or merely a satirical one, Greaves asks, “[w]hy can’t it be both?”

“If the Commission votes yes on the proposal, conservatives will flip out,” Mehta wrote. “If they vote no, they’re just inviting a lawsuit. This is beautiful.”

Classless schadenfreude. Screw him the 1st is there for him too. Insincere “satirical” religious displays really don’t help anyone.

Oh you think people The Friendly Atheist are the Satanic Church?
Weird I didn’t read it that way. I’m pretty sure the guy who wrote what you highlighted has nothing to do with the Satan statue.
And The Hindu statue, of which The Friendly Atheist guy is actually talking about, is hardly satirical.

I don’t think any of it is satirical. No, I think this brings to light the case of anyone not being Christian being poorly represented, if not totally ignored. To me, that’s more important than what deity they do or don’t worship.

I mostly find it hilarious. Christians: be careful what you wish for. The chickens have come home to roost. And they poop a lot.

But remember also, ‘both sides’ are as bad as each other. Therefore, we are fundamentalists of some kind who hate freedom of religion just as much as the hard ‘Christian’ right do.
Or something.

re: #6 cinesimon

I hate assholes regardless of religious affiliation. I also know cool people of many religions. Sadly, the (icky) Satanists, in this case, have made a very important point. Other religions will merely follow suit.

I hope the place looks like a yard sale by the time every religion has finished decorating. I really do. Then maybe some religion that likes flamingos and yard gnomes can put the cherry on top.

And each religion that represents a place on the map has a food court, because I like trying exotic foods. / added

Hanuman is the monkey god. I wonder if the Hindus chose him on purpose, to make monkeys out of the conservatives in OK.

One could argue that placing a monument to Satan outside a state legislature is a tad redundant…
