Amazon Outdone by Drug-Delivering Euro Drone
Whatever the likelihood of Amazon delivering by drone anytime soon, the concept certainly captures the imagination. This is what the future is supposed to look like, right? A century of science fiction can’t be wrong.
Tapping into the current frenzy stoked by Amazon’s Prime Air experiment, DHL released video footage this week of its own delivery drone in action. The German shipper one-upped Jeff Bezos by making a real delivery to real people. What’s more, the cargo on board was reportedly something you can’t order from Amazon: prescription drugs.
Before you get too excited, note that the shipment was part of a weeklong test being run by the company, and the customers were DHL employees. As the Wall Street Journal reports, the company began flying a specially outfitted quadcopter across the Rhine river on Monday carrying medicines from a Bonn pharmacy to DHL headquarters.
