With all this Duck Dynasty uproar, I guess Evangelicals missed that the Pope called them a bunch of Pagans.

At his weekly General Audience on Wednesday, Pope Francis urged Christians to imitate Jesus Christ by being humble and “small among the small.”

“It is an ugly thing,” he said, according to Vatican Radio, “when you see a Christian who doesn’t want to humble himself, who doesn’t want to serve, a Christian who struts about everywhere: it’s ugly, eh? That is not a Christian: that’s a pagan!”

Why should they serve? They’ve declared themselves “saved”, and have a guaranteed Get Out of Hell Card and a first class ticket into Heaven no matter what they do.

I think they may have an unpleasant surprise coming if their god actually exists.

Seems like a nice guy. If they keep putting nice guys in the Pope’s chair, maybe they can ignore things like birth control and women’s rights another 500 years. That would be awesome.//

I’ve said before, and this re-enforces it in my mind, if he were the rule rather than only the exception, I’d swim the Tiber. We’d still have a hell of a lot of theological fights but someone like can be disputed with - Benedict? Not so much and he’s, alas, far more typical of the breed.

Seriously though, some of the nicest, kindest ,and most giving people I know identify as pagan. Couldn’t he have just compared those pompous eKstraKrispyKristians to, well, themselves?

It is crap. What I love about it is Evangelicals constantly accuse Liberal Christians of selectively interpreting the Bible and here that’s what they’ve done with this Prosperity Gospel crap. Francis is doing everything possible to piss off the hypocrites within the Christian religion and I appreciate him doing it and I love how he seems to live up to his principles.

Even though I left the RC church years ago (Catholic school from K-12 will make you doubt, trust me), and I won’t go back, I got to hand it to him so far.

Of course, the old guard loves their money and power, it would not surprise me in the least if creepy Ratzinger pulls something to get back in power.
