Why do retailers need to keep encrypted PINs? When I purchase something where I enter my PIN, it’s either the right one or not, so the sale is approved or not approved by my bank. No reason to keep the PIN.

So does this mean the thieves were sniffing/recording the actual data transmissions?

Fortunately I haven’t bought anything at Target since May.

Yeah, the only way I’ve paid for stuff at Target in the last couple of months is via a prepaid gift card.

Now if those hackers are willing to load up my card with funds, I promise I won’t press charges against them.
