The public took the right’s Schiavo grandstanding, and told them to get the fuck out of our private lives with their religious shibboleths.

It is as if being told to back off by the public just makes these busybody assholes more obnoxious.

“Together with our team of experts, Terri’s Network believes Jahi’s case is representative of a very deep problem within the U.S. healthcare system… a vested financial interest in discontinuing life,”

Okay, this girl is braindead. I’m sorry the inside of her head looks like a black hole, but let’s get real. Keeping her alive is a lot like having a houseplant, except way more expensive. I think there are better hobbies people can adopt than keeping a person alive in a vegetative state simply because it makes them feel better there’s an empty shell of a person that used to resemble their son/daughter/sister/husband/wife. For fuck’s sake, love them and let them go.

There was a very moving call in to a program I was listening to on NPR the other day. It was from a woman who had been through a very similar experience a couple decades ago, except that in her case, she and her husband had realized the situation was truly hopeless and had donated their daughter’s organs. She had later been in contact with at least a couple of the recipients and while she still mourned for her daughter, she felt she lived on through these other lives saved.

re: #3 calochortus

What a beautiful way to remember someone and help others that want to live their lives, as well.

If the brain is dead but the body is being kept alive with medical apparatus then where is the persons “soul?”

Is it still trapped in the useless husk that used to be a functional body or has it gone on to whatever type of “afterlife” that person or person’s family believe in?

Hmm? Anyone care to hazard a guess?

Wow what a touching gesture.
