of course the one-way street Duck Dynasty/Faux News crowd will either ignore or agree with the NFL’s “trampling of free speech” because their agenda is being promoted.

Ethics is a lost concept in today’s America, and morality has evolved/declined into a mere inconvenience in the way of agenda and ideology.

Exactly. Just like the people on the left who advocate the concept that free speech should not be free of consequences will rally around this guy. The culture warriors are only interested in supporting their side and suppressing the other.
It may be legal for the NFL to fire him but it’s a shitty thing to do. I really think we’d be better off if we stopped trying to penalize people with other ideas.

and… the sports forums and comments sections are already piling up with the usual “fa**ot” name-calling and “got what he deserved” bilge. That took exactly 2 seconds.

If he was fired for his views then I hope heads roll, but the Vikings have always been my number 2 team(back in the 80’s it was nice to have someone to cheer for in the playoffs, and lord knows the Patriots weren’t making it there very often) and I honestly think he was let go purely for business reasons. He was one of the highest paid punters in the league, yet was ranked 22nd in the league the last year he played for them. Their replacement this year had slightly better numbers for 1/4 of the payroll hit.

Tough to disagree. If you examine Kluwe’s statistics for 2012, they look to be pretty much on par with what he had done other years in his career.

Oh look, it’s the MBF. My first sighting of the year—whee!

I’m not directing this at you, CL, but I just want to point out the following.

I’m not sure where the balance is. This guy was fired; the Duck guy simply played a part in a PR stunt arranged by the A&E tv network to goose ratings and merchandise sales.

He wasn’t fired, he wasn’t suspended, he wasn’t cut from any shows, nor were any shows removed from the network’s programming, and he didn’t lose a dime.

So where’s the balance here?

I don’t think the sighting she referred to was at the top of the page.

I assumed it was in response to post #3.

OK, nevermind me….

This is a good guy!
” I repeated my stance that this was the right thing to do, that equality is not something to be denied anyone, and that I would not promise to cease speaking out. At that point, Coach Frazier told me in a flat voice, “If that’s what you feel you have to do,” and the meeting ended. The atmosphere was tense as I left the room.”

It was a subcomment, like a subtweet.

Of course there isn’t any real balance because the MBF’s wand is made magic by the power of tu quoque.

Here is the Vikings’ response to the Kluwe story.

That is the one mitigating factor that works against Kluwe’s claim. Punters and kickers are perhaps the most expendable positions on any team, and with the payscale being what it is (you make more money each year) vis a vis the salary cap, teams aren’t going to invest too much money in a punter or kicker, no matter how good he is (the Browns eventually let Phil Dawson go after franchising him twice, and he is arguably the most reliable kicker in the league, especially from beyond 50 yards). Nevertheless, the circumstances of his release do seem curious.
