Gee, we really need to have Huckabee weigh in on this. Now we’ll know just what to do, rather than listening to a bunch of experts.

The lawyer is saying they’ll move her on Tuesday, but won’t say where. I just can’t believe the sleaze factor of his actions.

“Every life has value and worth,”

The sickness in religious stances on life is that this dead child could save many lives if her organs were used for others. Contrast the Christian fundamentalists with this mother’s view (link below), although I mean no condemnation of the parents of this child who clearly know no better and are focused on their own grief.

I hope the family makes sure to send the bills to Huckabee. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind paying for her care for the next 70 years.

Maybe he would, if it gave him more air time.

She is also taking up a bed in the pediatric ICU and therefore preventing it’s use by some child who is actually alive. Doesn’t that child’s life have a value as well?

Where was all this concern for “every life” when Obamacare supporters were pointing out the 40 million uninsured who couldn’t afford health care without it?

re: #5 calochortus

Yes, not to mention the lawyers involved for profit I suspect, not to mention the counter cost at taxpayer expense ultimately, and I suspect the eventual overhead in congress.

By this line of logic we should attempt to get everyone one life support at the time of “death” pacemaker, ventilator, tube feedings, IVs, Oh yes and since they would be immobile, Physical therapy to prevent contractures and wound care to treat bedsores as soon as they develop……..

no one checked to see if she was insured? Cuz then it’s let her die!

re: #9 Jocko’s Rocket Ship

Moot point. She has been declared dead.

…aaaaand stop right there.

re: #10 Achilles Tang

Good point, my bad. But now we need to cut some living taker’s care to offset her expense, right?

“Every life has value and worth, except for Mexicans, Ay-rabs, queers, and death row inmates.”

There, fixed.

Vicious Babushka,

I sincerely doubt that we’ll have Nazi style death camps, or even forced abortions in the US anytime soon. Do these people have any idea how much opposition to those things there would be in a country with a free press like ours? Do they ever even consider that?

“Let’s hope and pray that the courts continue to do what every court should do, respect parents over government, family over hospitals and, above all, protect Jahi from them all.”

So basically the rule of law is meaningless if parents or family disagree with the law. Being a moral arbiter is oh so easy. Garbage in Garbage out.

17 theheat  Mon, Jan 6, 2014 7:10:59am

It’s Huckabee and his ilk’s line of thinking that force hospitals to become no-kill shelters, no matter how pointless. This unfortunate girl has become a facsimile of a living person whose prolonged existence is meaningless. If she had any brain function whatsoever, it would also be cruel.

Short answer: Nope.

She has now been transferred to her mother’s custody. Her body has been removed and taken to an undisclosed facility. Apparently the family was able to raise over $40,000 in contributions to fund the transfer.

The lawyer at one point said that he was working entirely pro-bono and had no intention of participating in a lawsuit against the hospital. I wonder what grounds he will find to change that plan?

20 nines09  Mon, Jan 6, 2014 11:16:05am

Mike Huckabee stated that a person who had pre existing conditions should not be allowed to be insured. How does that jive with this scenario? I’m confused./

21 HappyWarrior  Mon, Jan 6, 2014 5:11:45pm

Sick of motherfuckers like Huckabee using the Holocaust to make cheap attacks. No, Mike, this isn’t like a Nazi death camp or a forced abortion, you insensitive fuck.

Watch the language. Someone might think you are a Breitbart.
