I’m curious. If the position was filled by a single man, would that same clause, ridiculous as it is, still be there?

Of course not. These jackholes believe that women are held to different standards from men.

One day we’ll lose the feudal idea that employees are property.

Who’s planning to enforce that?

I don’t know.

Clicking through the link, I found accusations of financial impropriety at Alabama State:

The university Boyd inherits is mired in contretemps. An ongoing audit commissioned by the governor’s office has already made allegations about contracts for services that were not delivered and found numerous questionable relationships, including payments to family and friends of board members. The university is fighting back, arguing that it’s being targeted for political reasons; university officials released a report to counter the governor’s audit and have sued the auditing firm.

Many of the questions began after a new president took office in fall 2012 and began questioning some of the university’s dealings. He was paid $685,000 to resign after less than three months on the job. Boyd replaces William H. Harris, the interim president and president emeritus.

The Board of Trustees contains at least two judges, which makes the unusual clause even more unusual.

While the cohabitation clause is dubious, afaic at this point there are more questions than answers about why it’s in the contract. I suspect that there’s more behind the scenes at ASU than has made it into the media as yet.

It would if they suspected he might be teh Ghey.

I fail to understand why anyone would sign a contract containing such a clause. It’s an intrusion on someone’s private life.

[While I can understand why the school would prefer no hanky-panky in a university-owned residence, it’s really none of their GD business. She’s the president of the uni, not a college student.]

Why? $300k, plus a car and a residence. That’s a pretty sweet deal.

Besides, she can spend the night at her lover’s place with impunity. At least they didn’t demand she hire a chaperon.

I’m actually okay with this.

By “cohabitate” and “extended period of time”, I’m assuming they don’t mean an occasional weekend, or date night with somebody who has a domicile of his own.

I’ll point out… that was the dorm rules when I was in college. Sure the boyfriend could stay over, but if it was more than 3 days in a row they’d start to think it’s not just visting, that we’re scamming for free rent. Company benefits (in this case free housing) are for the employee and family… not for whoever happens to be passing through her life at the moment.

“Mired in contretemps?”

I’m stealing that — if I can find a context.
