Aitazaz Hassan Bangash is a true martyr, giving his life so that others might live. I am certain that he is now in Heaven, as that kind of selflessness shows a persons true faith in God and love of others.

Rest In Peace, Aitazaz Hassan Bangash. Your faith inspires me, and renews my own.

So his actions are about religion, not trying to keep his schoolmates from being hurt and killed?
Yuck.

re: #2 cinesimon

He saved his schoolmates’ lives. He obviously cared about them. It doesn’t even mention his religion, but even If his religious views actually played into his motivation, so what? Are you so anti religion, that you’re going to criticize someone for saving other people’s lives at the cost of their own, if you think they’re religion had something to do with it?

That’s not what I was saying, Both Christianity and Islam put great stock in the idea that a good person doesn’t just live and act for him or her self, a good person cares about and protects others. That is what young Mr. Bangash did, he acted to protect others from a murderous aggressor. He didn’t run, even though he likely could have. Instead, he took the course of action most likely to minimize the casualties inflicted by the bomber, even though he had to know the cost of doing that would be his own life.

Aitazaz Hassan Bangash died to protect others, and his courage and selflessness was in the best traditions of his faith and my own.

I do confess also to a secondary point: Our Islamist enemy calls its suicide bombers ‘martyrs’, when in fact those who carry out such attacks knowingly are murderers. To call Bangash a martyr is my way of highlighting what to die for the faith really means, to make clear what the righteous path is as best as I know it. His courage and selflessness put the lie to the claims of the Islamists and the Western anti-Islam bigots, and I did want to highlight that fact.

re: #2 cinesimon

Giving ones own life in saving the life of another or many other human beings is the most noble act any human can ever hope to commit.

Even if he was religiously motivated, who gives a fuck?

Its the act itself that is the only thing that matters.

Many thanks for this post.

re: #4 Dark_Falcon

I understood what you meant and I’m pretty sure everyone else did as well. Unfortunately, the cinesimons of the world seem to feel compelled to express their pathetic dickishness no matter how inappropriate the situation.

It provides a stark foil for Aitazaz’s heroism though doesn’t it? It brings home the vast difference in character between those who don’t hesitate to selflessly give their lives for others, and those who encounter such stories and find themselves unable (or unwilling) to muster anything but petty sniping.

It does indeed.
