Really looking forward to watching this with my kids; loved Carl Sagan’s Cosmos when I was young.

This will be of epic epicness. I still put Cosmos on and re-live watching those Voyager pictures come through. And Sagan’s dismemberment of Platonic “reasoning” and the cult of the Pythagoreans was something I re-watched in adulthood, and it helped me greatly in picking apart the tangled web of western philosophy.

It’s on Fox? The wingnuts aren’t going to like that one bit. Where’s the balance with God’s version?

I can see the boycotts being organized right now. No doubt Congressional Republicans will be getting all hot and bothered about there being too much science and not enough God.

Should be fun to watch.

There will always be, “Redneck Cosmos!”

Is “reboot” really the right term, here? It’s not like they’re pretending the science narrated by Carl Sagan never existed….

True, but even if you ignore the fact that it will be Neil DeGrasse Tyson rather than Carl Sagan this time, around, it will be different. For one thing we know a lot more, than when the original Cosmos came out.

A little OT, but I found the history of western philosophy much easier to understand when I realized that it includes a futile and centuries-long quest to change faith in a deity to knowledge of a deity.

Since 1984, all my motorcycle helmets are the Dandelion Ship, in retroreflective tape.

There will be differences, but since Ann Druyan is directly involved in the new show’s production, it is safe to say that the spirit of Carl Sagan will be ever present, as she co-wrote the original program with him , and they were married less than a year after the production ended.
