Clear racist dog-whistling here. In 1865 Lincoln freed the slaves by freeing the slaves. Today the GOP will free African-Americans (and lots of poor Whites and Hispanics as well) from “slavery” by starving them.

Yea, this is the part in history where we just throw up our hands and pretend words have no fucking meaning.

It’s all up to interpretation, right? My slavery is your public assistance is someone else’s global thermonuclear war.

Come to think of it, I often think of right-wing Christianity as a sort of global thermonuclear war, in that it’s everywhere and it’s very destructive.

I’m sure, I can just start baldly asserting that a Bible is as bad as an ICBM right the fuck here, why not?

Because, nothing has any damn meaning anymore, apparently!

I’m only kind of being funny here.

Asshole would probably support real slavery if it still existed in this country. What the fuck is wrong with Republicans when it comes to history. Listen, you can disagree about food stamps fine but don’t be an ass and claim food stamps are like slavery.

What, NC voters aren’t flocking to the GOP after receiving the benefits of a Republican governor and legislature? From the link:

It may seem counter intuitive that Tillis, generally seen as the likely Republican candidate, is the only one who trails Hagan. That’s a reflection of his being the only one of the GOP candidates who’s particularly well known, and it not being a good thing for him. Only 12% of voters have a favorable opinion of him to 30% with a negative one, a residual effect of his association with this year’s unpopular legislative session. That’s causing him to poll slightly worse than the more generic Republican candidates.

In other words, Republicans are poised to nominate the candidate with the worst prospects in the general election.

A few years ago, this would have upset me. Today I just give a fatalistic shrug.

Since the Stupid Party couldn’t manage to defeat MO’s highly vulnerable Claire McCaskill in 2012, Hagan has cause for optimism.

The thing that is most insane about that is most of the people who claim stupid shit like that also claim real slavery wasn’t so “bad.” Really as I said, it’s one thing to think income tax, food stamps, etc are bad policy, it’s quite another to liken them to enslaving human beings.
