I blame Crocodile Dundee, Outback Steakhouse, Fosters beer, and Chrono Cross.

Whats that? You’ve never played Chrono Cross? Oh good. You’re not missing anything worthwhile.

I remember once hearing something about how all Australians were convicted felons who were thrown out of the U.K. and then I notice that this article doesn’t even mention it. Are they trying to hide the truth from us?

Well, it is from AlterNet.

When they say the sky is blue I go out and double check. However even a broken clock kook is right 2 times a day sometimes.

I have a feeling that most Americans don’t believe that, and I’m glad that’s so. We have enough bigotry in this country. I’m not sure, but I think the first people the English sent to colonize Australia were convicted criminals. It was a penal colony at one time. However, it didn’t just stay that way. Anyway, why would all their decedents be criminals?

Well, its one of the websites you can choose from in the LGF news feed, and I have seen other people here link to it in the past without any complaints. Also many of the things posted their are people’s opinions so I would expect a lot of it to be wrong. I don’t with everything posted their either. However, I don’t think that most of the stuff posted there, are very “kooky.”

I thought it was kind of funny. I am having trouble seeing how this is insulting to anyone.

If I am being insensitive, let me know!

The first Europeans to settle in Australia were indeed convicts (and their jailers.) Transportation started in 1788 and didn’t end until 1840, after some 150,000 convicts, mostly petty thieves and prostitutes, had been sent there. A significant percentage were political prisoners, too. Few made it back to Britain and Ireland. A lot of people went there freely, though, especially after gold was discovered. A lot of Australians see convict ancestry as a badge of honour.
