Looks like someone barely learned how to use Photoshop.

Looks like someone barely learned how to use Photoshop.

He learned it well enough to make $100,000 last time. I wonder what he’ll get for this one?

4 sauceruney  Thu, Jan 23, 2014 9:22:25am

If only he’d get sued by the copyright holder.

If only he’d get sued by the copyright holder.

That’s why he’s called “invincible”. He gets away with murder, he gets away with domestic abuse, he stiffs his lawyer for millions, and he gets away (and profits handsomely) from theft of copyright.

Hell, I’d be willing to bet that the copy of Photoshop he uses is pirated as well.

George Zimmerman is to art what Shia Lebouf is to screenwriting

Has the buyer been revealed?

As somebody said the last time (Krager, I think), this is a perfect way to actually transfer / launder money. No doubt there will be some conservative group ready to bid it up.

I wish I wasn’t raised right, it would be so easy to fleece the right wing nutjobs.

Not to defend an idiot like Zimmerman, but many times illustrators/painters will use images in the media as reference material. Especially if they are in the public domain after many years in history. However, it is all for reference not straight up copying. And many times there will be other backgrounds or themes, distortion of the character to make a point, etc. And, many times they will ask for the okay to do so from the owner of the image.

But what they don’t do is sign the work as their own.

The brushwork is Zimmerman’s own. As such he can sign it.

I don’t recall that being the case for Shepard Fairey when he lifted that AP photo as a reference for his famous HOPE poster of Barack Obama.

The law allows for transformative work, the AP and Fairey settled out of court and the terms were sealed.

There is no “brushwork” other than the signature. It’s a pure digital manipulation, falsely claiming another person’s work as his own.

I thought it was a painting, not a print.

It’s a copyright violation.

When did Zimmerman learn to paint? And why do both his “paintings” look exactly like copyrighted works from the AP and Shutterstock run through a Photoshop filter?

There was - probably still is - a video of a guy making the exact same flag image as Zimmerman did using the stolen image and Photoshop.

As was the last one. Somehow, even with all the publicity and large sale price that one received, he apparently got away with it.

It’s my understanding that he may not get away with this one.

There’s no brushwork, sorry. There’s a picture, that he ran through an algorithm. He’s done nothing original, that required even a modicum of skill to do. Zero creative effort, zero creative ability.

Any fuckwit could do what he did, almost accidentally.

24 b_sharp  Fri, Jan 24, 2014 8:45:25am

If it’s a painting, he’s simply projecting an image on canvas and painting over it.

25 BusyMonster  Fri, Jan 24, 2014 12:26:49pm

Ok one more time slowly people. He is George Zimmerman, who is so impatient and control-freakish that he whips out his gun whenever he feels threatened.

To picture this frightened, stupid mouse of a man taking time and consideration to carefully re-paint a photograph, just that shabby non-artistic task, is simply ludicrous.

Zimmerman’s public life so far has demonstrated to us that he is not interested in the depth or process of life, but in the most superficial, immediate results. Art takes work, and garners respect.

Fucking off with Photoshop was old news 20 years ago. There is no debate here as to whether we’re looking at art. We are not. We are either looking at #1 a desperate effort to leave something other than a tombstone in his wake, or #2 some despicable and stupid money-laundering scheme that will eventually get him in even more trouble than he already is.

AP Tells George Zimmerman To Quit Using Its Photo For His Painting

The Associated Press has sent a cease-and-desist letter to George Zimmerman’s attorney, arguing a painting he released of the special prosecutor who charged him with the murder of Trayvon Martin was copied directly from an AP photo.

“George Zimmerman clearly directly copied an AP photo to create his painting of Florida State Attorney Angela Corey,” the AP’s Director of Media Relations, Paul Colford, told TPM Friday in an e-mailed statement. “The AP has sent a cease-and-desist letter asserting its copyright in the photo to the lawyer who recently represented Zimmerman. That lawyer has responded, and though she no longer represents Mr. Zimmerman, she will be forwarding the letter to him today.”

Why do they keep referring to this digital pile of crap as a “painting”? It’s a digitally manipulated image, sent to Walmart or Costco to be printed on a canvas paper so George can then sign it.

George and his equally ethically challenged brother have really screwed the pooch this time. If only the creator of the first image he stole would sue, George would be double-plus-good screwed.
