Sochi 2014: IOC jeopardized safety of athletes and fans in awarding Games to Putin’s Russia

Along with watching the competition we can hold our breath waiting for the inevitable

I thought about this a little when the IOC awarded the games to Russia. I thought about it more when threats were made from the fanatical Islamist terrorists at war with Russia. Now I fear a horrible point in time that should be marked with records and accomplishments. There will be incidents. There and elsewhere. Thug Putin gets the games and when something happens, the pity. The IOC is a pack of psychopaths. We are fools. Target Sochi.
I hope I am wrong.

The IOC always awards based on the best level of initial and continuing bribe money. Why would this games be different? They don’t care about anything else.

Oh I’m aware of how corrupt the IOC is. They make FIFA look like children. The article I posted said it as best I’ve read. If there is bloodshed it’s the IOC’s doing. They have made a grand stage in a dangerous climate for killers just waiting for the chance.

I won’t be watching the Olympics, period. The IOC is a self-centered for-profit entity. They don’t care about the damage they cause when selling their image.

I can’t help but feel sorry for the people of Russia, despite the violent homophobia. They’ll be stuck with a ginormous bill to pay long after Putin and co get the prestige they wanted. In addition to the bribery for the “honor” of hosting the games, they also have to pay for constructing the stadiums for playing there. Even if a city already has such facilities from hosting the games before, thats not good enough. It never is. They have to be brand spanking new every single time. Not to mention the people who get displaced from their homes to make room for the brand new olympic facilities.

And who reaps the windfall from the games? Not the local businesses. They aren’t even allowed to mention the olympics when advertising. Only large, multinational corporations get to make any real money from the games.

And I won’t even get started on how autocratic nations treat their athletes without so much as a blink from the IOC.

The olympics are poison, regardless of whatever they once stood for. I refuse to support the cold, greedy, bloodless bastards. If that means snubbing the athletes too, so be it. Sorry olympic athletes who worked so hard to get there, but I won’t let the IOC’s fluff about “the human/athletic spirit” distract me from the soul-crushing damage they leave behind.
