They are dooming themselves to becoming a third-world like economy. Major employers are going to think twice about asking their diverse employee groups to move to and/or continue to work in an apartheid state.

You cannot do that. If you get a job with the government, and you happen to belong to a religion that finds Christianity and abomination, you do not have any right to deny a Christian service. None.

I wish it would, but they won’t become 3rd world because the richer more liberal parts of the country will have to support them, giving them the delusion that the choice they made didn’t hurt them at all.

In the name of “religious liberty”, can I chose not to serve religious zealots like these assholes?

I dunno. The Pauls would say yes—that anything else is denying you freedom of association, and that the world is sufficiently just, that you will find enough others feeling like you to have your own private economy. Kansassholes might be another story altgether, though, who feel that we somehow became the successor state to Ancient Israel and thus have to enshrine Godly law in Earthly law or else be constantly punished by acts of God…

I just read the statute. Take note that the wording doesn’t specifically name same-sex marriage (in fact, same-sex unions are even mentioned only once), but is much broader by stating that ANY marriage/union is subject to their religious approval. In other words, this statute gives tacit approval for miscegenation-related discrimination.

If you’ll pardon my simply quoting from the blog post, “If a gay couple calls the police, an officer may refuse to help them if interacting with a gay couple violates his religious principles. State hospitals can turn away gay couples at the door and deny them treatment with impunity.”

Among other problems, if the bill becomes law and remains law for any length of time, this would have to affect business travel into Kansas. Even making an airline connection in Kansas could be hazardous. What if you need medical care in the Kansas airport? The impact on business should be interesting.

I’m stunned and amazed.
