I grew up atheist in the 1970-80’s. I wasn’t worried about death camps, but I was threatened by one quite arrogant “Christian” that I would be forced to choose, soon. That was in the late 1980’s. Also during that time period I was lured to a church on false pretenses (it was supposed to be a “concert”) and surrounded by several gigantic assholes who wouldn’t let me leave because my soul needed saving. Had I any sense at all I would have charged them with whatever skates right the hell up to kidnapping charges would appropriately describe what happened to me.

What these people are experiencing isn’t even that, and that wasn’t even persecution. When a Christian can point to any time where someone in authority (as the first individual I describe was) does anything like that, or where any non-Christian organization singles out a Christian for kidnapping and harassment. Then, they can worry that persecution is nigh, but it’s still not persecution because let me know when we’ve started herding these whiny babies into concentration camps, or having them arrested for walking down the street.

Unsympathetic doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel. THESE VERY SAME PEOPLE were doing that to ME in the 1980’s.

Persecuted from people who want to have special laws that allow them to discriminate against gays. Rich.

What religious freedoms have the fundamentalist right wing lost or are in fear of losing?
It seems to me, they are still mistaking loss of power for loss of freedom.
They will always have the same freedom to worship who they want, and how they want, but they are losing the power they use to have over the public sphere in regards to their narrow religious beliefs.
That’s not persecution, that’s Democracy. Which also might explain Fundamentalist disdain for it.

It’s so hard to be a white, straight Christian nowadays. The horror!

Because for some Christians you can never be persecuted enough!

And you know what is strange about that, they are supposed to be willing to take the slings and arrows and be strong for their faith. Instead they cry and whine about all the persecution…and really who is persecuting them other than their own whacky perceptions?

Not only persecution but self flagellation too and then they carry the burden of their own cross. Very pathetic.
