Good news but the fact that this passed the Kansas state house is bad enough. Honestly, this is the problem with the right and LGBT issues. It’s one thing to disagree on SSM and boy do I ever with conservatives on that issue but many conservatives want to deny LGBT should have rights period. They want a society where someone’s own personal prejudices can allow them to discriminate against gay people when it comes to providing vital services. People say “Why is it a big deal” when someone like Michael Sam or Ellen Page come out, well you have the answer.

Now everybody just has to remember that the House of Represenatives in Kansas PASSED the bill. The people who think that way are still in office. If they thought they could get away with it they would. Maybe the voters in Kansas wake up, maybe not. Until they do and dump the Republican majority it will play out over and over, just like in every other (R) state.

Don’t get all excited about this. They’ll just come at it another way next time. These people will never give up until they’ve created their fundamentalist Christian theocracy to replace secular government. Their actions in Kansas and elsewhere make this crystal clear.

Don’t think the cretins in the K-state senate voted against this because they thought it a really awful idea. They voted against because the spotlight was on them and it was turned up to 11. If there is a way to bring this about again without the publicity, they’ll try. Until Kansas voters come to their senses and realize what they’ve done in voting for these talibangicals, only eternal vigilance will stay their hand in legalizing discrimination like this.

These people are bullies and cockroaches. Turn the light on them and they scatter.

It’s good news that this was voted down but it’s utterly depressing that this abomination ever made it to the floor to begin with and was actually passed by one chamber of Kansas’ legislature.
