re: #1 BusyMonster

I’m wondering when the last gay activist set a right-wing fuckhead Christian church on fire, and what the victim-bots of the right would do if someone actually fired back at them.

I am not denying the existence of “right-wing fuckhead Christian churches” that encourage treating gays unfairly, but in this particular instance the alleged perpetrator attended a mosque.

And no, I am not laying this crime at the door of Muslims everywhere. This was an attack by an extremist. Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu……the particular religion does not seem to matter much once the word “extremist” is appended.

It does amaze me that the hard right christian hate mongers really just do not see how much they come off like the jihadis they profess to hate.

I disdain all sky fairies equally. I don’t care what symbol you plaster on your holy book, it doesn’t give anyone the right to dictate the life and death of another human being. And, my original point still stands. What would happen, to these assholes, if they had to endure the very real persecution they would love to dole out on others?

If you follow links on though to the Seattle Times you will find that he has a history of odd behavior that would seem mental illness. Do you really want to put down people who are mentally ill? His neighbors say he has never acted or said anything about hating gays or anyone else. The Seattle Times articles, there are several, don’t support the TV reporter’s version. Maybe KIRO talked to the FBI as their source. Other than attending a local mosque his life doesn’t sound like it is very religious His past arrests include being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. From the Seattle Times articles about him, he is just another human being who needed help for mental illness and didn’t get it. Do you really think everyone who is mentally ill should be demonized and tried for hate crimes? Try checking out the links on Hate Watch. I was wondering why someone had reported that he had claimed to have purchased a gun to kill people and the authorities waited until he actually set a fire and was identified by the community to arrest him. I disdain news that doesn’t begin to inform, like the article in the link. FBI agents who use mentally ill people to groom for hate crimes should be in prison for treason. I am tired of hearing about the FBI being proud of grooming and arming people who are mentally ill.

I am certainly not saying that it does. It just seems a little bizarre to go off on a rant about “fuckhead Christians” when in this case the perp is Muslim. It would have made more sense to rant about extremists in general is the point I was making. I guess that is what you meant to do but didn’t do.

I get that you are angry at this guy but really, ” When do we get the go-ahead to put this fucking animal down, huh?” ?

I could argue that all extreme ideologies are practiced by the mentally ill, or can actually make someone mentally ill. Certainly anyone who would resort to deadly violence, IMHO, should be evaluated and treated if possible.

This is an area of the law in this country that is very fuzzy. At what point do we decided to prosecute rather than treat?

I think that point is when they cross the line and commit violent criminal behavior.

Pointing the finger any entity other than the individual is missing the point and ignoring the responsibility we have to recognize and fund mental health treatment.

According to the newspaper he has been arrested 5 times in the past . From Hate Watch-Libyan Immigrant Held in Attempted Arson of Seattle Gay Bar, FBI Investigating as Hate Crime article 5 February, 2014, Musmari’s neighbors told a Seattle Times reporter that he had become a problematic figure: accosting women in the neighborhood, hacking limbs off trees and painting the railings around his apartment building red. At the same time, they said he had never exhibited any signs of homophobia.

Yes I do think religion is a problem. A huge problem. I also think demonizing mental health issues is a problem. And there continues to be problems detecting mental health issues and treating them. Demonizing people who become violent doesn’t help. Yes, people who commit crimes especially violent crimes need to be, for lack of a better term-secured away from society.

I’m tired of reading about people who haven’t the resources or family to get help for mental health issues being groomed by FBI agents to commit violent crimes so they can claim islamic extremism. But I’ve been the target of christian extremists and had no help from law enforcement agencies. I’m physically disabled and I get accosted by men wanting money or sex at least once a week on the public transportation system. There is for me a point at which violent crimes committed by someone who understands what they are doing is not the same as someone who is not capable of understanding what they are doing. Maybe it’s my age. Maybe it’s because I know a law enforcement officer who befriended a vulnerable person, got him to commit a crime so the agent could make a big arrest and got away with it. And I live in an area that is trying to outdo al Qaeda by claiming that businesses and medical personal can discriminate in the name of jesus so maybe I’m overly touchy about what is and isn’t religious preference. I am annoyed with myself at the shear number of religious fanatics I would like to see incarcerated for threatening various groups of society, they understand what they are doing and justify their inhumanity with books on mythology.
