Yes, because it would establish that it’s not just a rumor. It is amazing what people can make themselves believe, if they are not being directly confronted with the facts.

I don’t know if things like warning labels or limiting portion sizes are effective. Probably not. But I think we are getting pretty close to proving that over-consumption of sugar (and processed carbohydrates) is responsible for the explosion of chronic disease we’ve seen over the past few decades. It’s a very real problem and a legitimate public health crisis (Obamacare or not, we’re all paying for it).

Having over 25% of the American population diabetic is going to be a least as dangerous and costly as the effects of smoking on public health. I don’t pretend to know the best way to address this looming disaster, but I think doing nothing would be irresponsible.
