Federal judge smackdown soon to follow?

How this is remotely constitutional I don’t know. Please proceed though conservatives and wonder why young people think you’re nothing but bigots when you want to encourage businesses to discriminate against people.

Show some mercy to your brain cells and don’t bother trying to figure it out - because it isn’t. This will get smacked down, the sooner the better.

That’s what I was going to say.

This bill is almost exactly the same as the Kansas HB 2453 “Jim Crow”-style bill that was withdrawn at the last minute a few days ago.
Pay attention to the specifics of this bill, particularly Section E.

In the wording of this bill, it gives religious individuals and groups complete freedom to discriminate against anyone who they want to, be it based on their religion’s beliefs on sexual orientation, other religions, race, or gender.

I’m always worried the ultra-right nutjobs on the Supremes are going to OK something like this. It’s just a matter of time.

It’s cute watching the Christian cults progressively freak out as they read the writing on the wall and the world (painfully slowly) throws off their fairy tales.

It’s the same thing happening to all the ultra-rich in America. Some sort of weird persecution syndrome.

I personally can’t wait until some nutter tries (and probably succeeds in the south somewhere) in getting a restraining order against “homosexuals” in general against their children or something. Like, “known homosexuals or those sharing their agenda shall not speak or approach 500 meters of…”

So according to this, could conservatives deny services to anyone they suspect is a democrat because democratic support of contraception offends their religious sensibilities? This law is ridiculously over broad.

That said, I’ll go out on a limb here (as I have on other threads) and say that the issue of a photographer for a wedding does seem like a special case. Since the photographer is required to attend the wedding that they take religious exception to, it does make some sense for them to be able to opt out. But no business should be able to exclude people from their establishments for such reasons; a gay couple should be able to get portraits taken at any studio they want.

Frankly, I think it may help gay couples avoid getting horrible wedding pictures. If someone resents being forced to accept business they don’t want, what is to keep them from spitefully doing a terrible job? Once the wedding is over, there is no way to redo the photos if they sucked.

Perhaps the best approach for wedding pictures, cakes and catering is for the business to be able to communicate that their heart won’t really be in the project and that the couple would likely find better service elsewhere. If I were planning a wedding I would really rather not hire a company that resented doing business with me. Although a few might take excessive advantage of such a loophole, I doubt it would be a big problem since most businesses like making money. Turning away business willy-nilly is pretty dumb.
