If you are serious about gun safety then you never ever treat a gun as if it is “unloaded/safe” no matter how sure you are that it is.

Mea Culpa: I once shot a sofa table and the wall behind it and the back of my oven (just dented fortunately). Because I was convinced that I had the safety engaged while I was wiping down a rifle. An accidental discharge like that makes for a great wake-up call, and I was fortunate enough not to injure myself or someone else. Sadly that is not always the case…

There is no such thing as gun safety that includes pointing it at yourself or anyone. Wow, exactly how not to ever go about gun handling. There is an awful scene from Pulp Fiction I always want included in any gun safety class.

Skip, where did you read he was drunk?

Looks like I misread the article. I was referring to the part where his girlfriend said he had been drinking “most of the day before the incident took place.”

I’ve changed the title to take out the drunk part.

The 36-year-old, whose name has not been released, was showing his girlfriend how his three handguns are safe when they aren’t loaded, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Guess he never learned Rule #1, which is that all guns are always loaded.

Oh heck I missed that, you could well be right. Drinking all day pretty much means drunk all afternoon at least. Dumbass paid the ultimate price. The one thing more dangerous than a car is a gun in terms of inebriation.

I was thinking the same thing! Most people I know who have guns are fanatical about not pointing them towards anyone (or themselves) when handling them.

Guns don’t kill people. Or something like that. Alcohol?

Alcohol and guns go so well together.

Oh, that scene. Yea. I think everybody who buys a gun should have to watch that sequence in its entirety.
