The party of dicks strikes again.

Am I the only one who gets this EXTREMELY creepy, “Women should need permission to seek divorce” vibe from this?

But then again, this is Utah, home of THAT particular cult, so… Might just be par for the course.

“And my sense, at least from the men that I interact with, is that they’ve usually been surprised by the divorce request, by the filing.”

huh. You mean they thought they had a submissive wife who’d been properly cowed?

Women, on the other hand, are never surprised when their husband takes up with a 20-year old, or absconds in the night.

(It’s a good thing Utah is next door to Nevada, where divorce is on demand.)

How about they give wives divorce on demand so husbands have to pay attention?

re: #4 Snarknado!

I’ve had to deal with (and am still dealing with) a troubled marriage, and let me tell you from experience; if you are “surprised” by your spouse asking for a divorce, it’s more likely that you haven’t been paying attention to what’s going on your marriage.

People don’t choose to end a marriage unless they’ve given up on it ever getting better. Sometimes, asking for a divorce is the only way you can get your spouse to wake up. *koff*

Women are too stupid to know how bad abortion is so they should get a second opinion on whether divorce is the answer, too. It’s more of that famous GOP outreach to women.

If a couple is so distant from one another that they don’t already know their marriage is in deep trouble, some state-mandated class isn’t going to make a damn bit of difference. And what’s up with the government playing marriage counselor, anyway. I thought GOPers wanted to get government out of people’s personal lives.

would require couples to take part of mandatory divorces classes even sooner than the law required when Utah became the first state with the mandate in 1994. Nielson would like to see couples take at least half of the $55 two-hour classes at the beginning of divorce process.

I think this headsup for men should include an anal probe and ultrasound. You know, so they know what they’re getting into. So they don’t rush into anything without all the facts. //

Then they can proceed with their fifty-five-fucking-dollar ‘counseling’ after a 24-48 hour waiting period. //

This will avoid these poor men running around like Butterfly McQueen, waving their hands, screaming, “I didn’t know nuthin’ ‘bout why my wife asked for a divorce.” //

These poor men just need more education about those evil things women do. //

Run, women. Run like hell.

I hope they bring Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich in to speak in favor of the bill. Nothing beats hearing first hand from the experts.

I wonder if there are any statistics about the reasons for divorce filings in Utah. Do issues like spousal abuse and infidelity really warrant state-imposed counseling before procedures are initiated?

Also, since this IS Utah that we’re talking about, who administers these counseling groups? Are we talking about a government agency, or will this be religious organizations running the show?

Wilma, I’m empty, beer me! And bring me another plate of wings! Wilma? Don’t make me get up and look for you; I’m watching the game!
