Svoboda controls a large segment of the parliament

Actually, they have a total of 36 out of 450 seats in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament. This comes out to 8%.

This is not to say they are not nasty or without power. They were part of the coalition governing the country until recently. As such they did have members in the cabinet. They also enjoy broader support in the west of the country, but certainly not a majority in any district.

Let’s keep a tiny bit of perspective. This party doesn’t even enjoy huge support compared to other European far right parties. In 2012 France’s National Front (not directly tied to anti-Semites in the same way, but similarly despicable by most other measures) earned 13.6% of the vote in the most recent National Assembly elections there.

Bottom line: you’re exaggerating. Again.

“In 2012 France’s National Front (not directly tied to anti-Semites in the same way”

Well, not since Jean-Marie Le Pen died. His daughter runs it now, and has moved away from the anti-Semitic stuff, but who knows if that’s genuine or if it’s for show.

Also, there’s a link between the National Front and Dieudonné, the anti-Semitic ‘comedian’ who has had Holocaust deniers join him on stage, and who created a gesture sort of like an inverted Nazi salute. Anti-Semites, neo-Nazi types, etc post photos of themselves performing the salute in front of synagogues, etc. One ex-National Front member posted a photo of himself doing the gesture at, I think, the Berlin Holocaust memorial.

Jean-Marie’s daughter indeed runs the FN, but last I checked, he’s still alive. I mean, I know Wiki can be wrong about things, but usually, it’s having them report someone as dead who’s really still alive :-P
