Steve Beshear said he would appeal because this issue will be decided in the Supreme Court and he wants Kentucky to be part of the process. It may also have something to do with the fact that Kentucky Democrats are evenly divided on the issue, and Andy Beshear, his son, is running for AG.

I’m actually impressed Kentucky elected a Democratic governor, they’re traditionally one of the reddest of the red states.

Not really. Kentucky went for Clinton both times. It’s a state that has grown more red but in the past was more a purple state and on a statewide level it remains quite Democratic albeit more conservative. Fun fact I remember reading though; Kentucky has had at least one member of the Democratic party in its Congressional delegation since the Democratic Party was first formed in 1828.

There are still a lot of conservative democrats in Kentucky like there use to be in the deep South. I think it was Mark Twain who said that he wants to be in Kentucky when the world ends because everything happens there twenty years later.

Indigenous Americans Ruled Democratically Long Before the U.S. DidDemocracy: it was older and more widespread than we thought. At the Oconee site, called Cold Springs, artifacts were excavated before the valley became an aquatic playground.
