It’s not really hypocrisy. Vladimir Putin has shown that he prefers a path of confrontation and aggression. That being the case, a harsher approach towards Russia is called for.

However, it remains true that the Cold War itself is definitively over, under any reasonable definition of the cold war as a communism vs. capitalism struggle.

Well yes he does, but does not McCain need a better analogy?

He really does. He is practically begging people to not be pragmatic in thought. to see the world in black and white.

There once was a John McCain who saw the forest for the trees. I miss that guy.
