Crime and punishment. I agree that our penal system is broken, or at least very dysfunctional. Now for simplicity sake, lets consider the punishment side. Now I will get some heat for not going into mandatory sentences and time served, but for my argument I would like to focus on the punishment. First, how do we measure the failure of a jail? I would begin with recidivism. I’m sure there are many more. So, how do we fix it? I don’t have the answer, but there are enough prisons out there, and enough college educated people out there to have a nation wide study on what works and what doesn’t work. Lets go from there.

The prison industrial complex is NOT broken. It is doing exactly what it has been designed to do.

Our society is what has been broken.

re: #2 Aunty Entity Dragon

Correct it is our insatiable thirst for blood and revenge that has created our prison system. It just galls people that someone, somewhere, is getting away with something and they need to fucking pay!!!
