Fire damages Anne Frank Apartment.
A small fire broke out in an apartment at the Merwede square in South Amsterdam. Normally this would not create headlines weren’t it that this was the last address where Anne Frank lived before she and her family were forced into hiding by the Nazi regime. According to the fire deparment the fire started in furniture in the living room.
The occupant of the apartment was not at home. A neighbour tried to extinguish the fire but had to be hospitalized due to inhaling smoke. Thanks to him the damage to the building was limited.
A few years back some film footage surfaced which contained the only moving images of Anne Frank. She was leaning out of the window
