TED TALKS - Does Sound Have Shape: Jon Osborne at TEDxMelbourne
Jon Osborne asks us to listen and ponder the possibility that sound has a shape. He describes how sound moves, works and how it affects our daily unconscious experience, such as how we feel as we ourselves move through space. He believes that it’s possible to reintroduce refreshing sounds, like water fountains and playgrounds, back into cities and make their streets pleasurable places to be.
He trained as a musician and has gathered experience in technical theatre production Jon now works as a consultant engineer and leads virtual acoustic design (auralisation) at Arup in Melbourne. He and his team have designed concert halls, optimised commercial building designs and helped city planners to imagine how they could transform the urban environment.
