5.1 Earthquake: Updated With Damage Reports
That was just a mild longish roller in my area, NoHo/Toluca Lake. As person that works downtown a lot, yikes. That fault continues under downtown. A deep 5.1 would not usually displace people, but this one was shallow enough to damage apartment buildings. Hopefully those inspections will not result in red tags. The earthquake that recently shook up the SF Valley aka the “shamrock shake” event was also very shallow.

After the 5.1 quake, at least eight homes and 20 apartment units were red-tagged in Fullerton because they are deemed unsafe to occupy, said police Lt. Mike Chlebowski. The damaged residences are located in northern Fullerton, closer to the quake’s epicenter, he said.
In La Habra, about 38 people, including seven children, spent the night at a Red Cross shelter.
More than 100 aftershocks have been reported since a magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattled Southern California on Friday night.
Most of the aftershocks have been small, but some were strong enough to be felt in the areas around the epicenter in northwestern Orange County.
Meanwhile, officials surveyed the damage, which for the most part was considered minor.
Fullerton police said early Saturday that as many as 50 people had been displaced by the quake. Several buildings are being investigated for possible structural damage, including some apartment buildings.
