VIDEO: Jimmy Carter Talks Sex Trafficking, Rape and Other Negative Forces on Women
At 89 years of age, former United States president Jimmy Carter is forthright and unapologetic. What he has to say about people in power and their complicit behavior that allows brothels and sex trafficking to continue would be shocking if it weren’t delivered with such a matter-of-fact edge.
Carter was at Powell’s Sunday to sign copies of his new book, “A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence and Power.” He did take a five-minute break to speak with the media.
He tossed out statistics from memory, such as 26,000 sexual assaults in the military two years ago with only 1% of those being prosecuted and “only about 4 percent of the rapes on college campuses are reported.”
Internationally, he says some females’ lives are cut short before they are even born. Once the gender of the fetus is determined through ultrasound, their lives are aborted he says.
