There’s much I disagree with here:

Dismissing one’s adversaries as wing nuts is myopic, both intellectually and politically. Like it or not, the Oath Keepers, and the myriad other “patriot” groups now emerging around the edges of the Tea Party movement, are tapping into a real strain of popular anger.

First off, this is a bit of historical revisionism. “Tea Party” groups by that name may be associated with Ron Paul and his associates, but they’ve been around for a very long time.

Secondly, who is to say their anger is “popular”? While numerous, they are not that popular. Their oversized influence is due to GOP politics and the need for the GOP to leverage small number groups to make up a coalition to keep in office versus Democratic Party candidates who on paper (if not showing up in the voting booths) ought to be the majority.

And who wouldn’t be angry? Unemployment for millions, bailouts and bonuses for a few. A health care reform plan supremely undersold by a Democratic establishment unconcerned with the battle for hearts and minds (see: Martha Coakley). A GOP controlled by pro-corporate nihilists.

This is MoJo and the authors trying to bandwagon their own favorite rallying causes (unemployment, health care, corporate controllers) onto the “popular” movement they claim to exist.

American history is full of hateful, angry, and even violent conflict, some done in the name of “politics”. What I believe has happened in that modern communications has allowed the majority, of not-so-angry and not-so-violent people, become aware and maybe even entertained by the the more hateful fringe.

The MoJo article is 4 years old. Martha Coakley? Scott Brown, the newest Senator?

Dismissing one’s adversaries as wing nuts is myopic,

They are not wing nuts because they are adversaries, they are wing nuts because they believe: the President isn’t an America; that he’s a Muslim, a communist, a Fascist, that his BC is fake; that libruls are Nazis, the Klan, and the Confederacy; that Al Gore claimed to invent the internet; that Democrats steal every election they have ever won; that there are death panels…..

Shall I continue?

Yep, I was contrasting this old post with the recent BLM vs Bundy freakshow.
