Does this prove Perry correct in his assertions?:

Perry, in his final year as governor, began airing radio commercials in California during his March swing through the state that highlighted its high taxes.

“A year ago, I was here, in California, encouraging companies to look to Texas for expansion and relocation,” he said in the ad, paid for by a group called Americans for Economic Freedom. “Over the past year and a half, more than 50 California companies have announced plans to expand or relocate in Texas, creating more than 14,000 jobs.”

Interestingly, this is the kind of thing that Toyota would not do in Japan. But in the US this kind of thing is encouraged.

In the race to the bottom, Texas is far ahead.

Hey guys Toyota has cited moving the HQ closer to the factories and that meant Texas. Nissan cited taxes as a major factor in leaving California.

Face it-Regardless of the Tea Party, Gov Perry and all that conservative vs Progressive debate, taxes and regulation have a big part in corporate decisions and necessarily so. Neither Texas nor California are as awful as the critics say or as wonderful as the chamber of commerce says. Methinks partisans let all that debate color states beyond reality.

Things are rarely as they appear to be, and take that doubly so for Japanese companies.

For example, how many of the current employees will want to move to TX? Some will, some won’t. Toyota can thus trim the total employees, as well as hiring new, and probably younger, people in TX.

Younger people who will work for less and be more shapeable by the corporate culture.

There is more than likely a long list of reasons for this move by Toyota, but I won’t take the cover story as the whole truth.
