RAPE FOR PROFIT in the USA: End Slavery Tennessee and the Big Payback
Why is it so important to address this issue now.? Because Slavery is a multi-billion dollar industry. As with all things in which so much money is involved, the dollars it produces becomes entrenched in our economic system. Those who benefit from the income become and are powerful people. They don’t give-up that status easily. (need an example? think War on Drugs)
I don’t think I need to reiterate the particular history we have in the US regarding slavery. The idea that even one slave exists within our borders is anathema to me.
We are better than this.
U.S. CONST. amend. XIII, § 1: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”
End Slavery Tennessee is participating in the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s campaign entitled “The Big Payback” taking place on May 6, 2014. Get involved and help make a difference in the lives of human trafficking survivors by supporting End Slavery Tennessee!
The FBI’s comprehensive website on Human Trafficking - It’s sad but true: here in this country, people are being bought, sold, and smuggled like modern-day slaves.
