I was reading up on some of this last night. Nigeria is a freaking mess. It doesn’t bode well for those poor girls. :-(

One point I do need to make is that talking about improvements to “address Boko Haram’s grievances” states the problem incorrectly: Improvements in infrastructure and governance are to be made to eliminate the grievances that drive members of the Muslim population of Nigeria towards Boko Haram. Boko Haram itself cannot be negotiated with, as its core membership is put of a totalitarian death cult.

Nigeria must indeed pursue a WHAM (Winning of Hearts And Minds) strategy if it is to find internal peace, but Boko Haram Delenda Est*.

*: Translation from Latin: Boko Haram must be destroyed.

Muslims as usual are shamefully silent over this disgusting atrocity. I guess it’s a lot easier to throw up tantrums over a Katy Perry video or a YouTube trailer than over the acts of fellow Muslims committing disgusting crap like this.

If Muslims need to wonder why our image is so screwed, the apparent lack of concern by the so-called Ummah of this is blatant proof of it. Westerners are the ones calling for action and what are Western Muslims doing? Probably crying over the next manufactured blasphemy I suppose.

You’re either blind & deaf or your eyesight & hearing are both selective.

Or you’re just a bigot, since this kind of crap seems to be the only thing that brings you slithering out from under your rock.

Check the beam in your own eye, Texan.

Texas is also a hotspot for domestic human trafficking because cities such as Dallas, Houston and Austin have many runaway and “throwaway” youth. On average, both Houston and Dallas have about 6,000 runaways each annually. According to National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway, and Throwaway Children, an estimated one out of every three children that run away is lured into sex trafficking within 48 hours of leaving home. Even more frightening is the fact that the average age of entry into sex trafficking is between 12 and 13 years old. Children who run away from home can often be found at bus stations, which have become a major recruiting ground for prostitution. childrenatrisk.org

Never said I was a fan of Texas’s repressive policies either. I never voted for Rick Perry or any of the ignoramus idiots of the Texas GOP to begin with.

CuriousLurker, you can curse at me all you want but you know VERY well the perception non-Muslims have of Muslims. And it’s one of us being self-absorbed hypocrites. We always make a stink over the most trivial bullshit, be it stupid cartoons, Katy Perry music videos, YouTube trailers, women not wearing hijab, but have you seen ANY mobilization of Muslims against injustices that occur in Muslim societies? How about the stupid blasphemy law in Pakistan? Many non-Muslims do indeed see us as hypocrites who whine about Muslim suffering at the hands of non-Muslims but turn a blind eye when the oppressors are fellow Muslims oppressing both Muslims and non-Muslims. A few trendy Twitter hashtags won’t change a bloody thing either. Muslims have earned the reputation and it’s because we can’t be self-critical without idiots in our community calling us self-hating or being “Uncle Tom’s”! Why should non-Muslims care about Muslim suffering if Muslims don’t give a damn about non-Muslims suffering at the hands of Islamic extremists?

I’m not the only one

The past few months have shown the Muslim social media world turned upside down by people all over the world commenting on whether or not it’s ok for “Happy British Muslims” to sing and dance or female Muslim Hipsters to ride skateboards. On a global level we’ve seen Muslims take to the streets when things like the Danish Cartoons have been published. I am not saying whether these things are right or wrong, but I am left to wonder why there is not a similar level of passion or urgency when situations like what is taking place in Nigeria transpires.
