Even the American public (whoda thunk it) has better taste than roughly 172 channels. Face it the problem is not science channels above everyone’s head, or history that goes too deep for the viewer. The selection process at Discovery Channels et al has gone completely bad. I joke about our home as the 3 lizard lair. Dragon Lady, myself and LeftWingConspirator aka Not ApprovedByTheMPAA.

The sum for all 3 of us is under 17 channels. 12-15 I think. Fox News and CNN are not even in mt “fave’ remote list, which I have set up at about 20 channels for surfing.

24hour cable news is a dead man walking since cell phone internet news access. it may live a while but it desperate search for relevance and ratings teaches us it’s dying off. Even my favorite news channels are only good for under an hour, why watch the same report again? That’s BBC America and Al Jazeera America.

I see that Directv says I have 792 channels to choose from. I doubt if my wife and I watch more than a dozen over the course of a year, and unless I know I’ve recorded something ,I don’t watch TV at all.

How many different versions of Flip This House, Flip It, Flip That, Alaska ….., Real Housewives of ….., House Hunters (in its dozen variations), etc. can a person stand to watch, and why watch any of them at all?

If you love paying for at least 150 channels you never watch, make SURE you don’t write to your elected representatives asking them to disallow the Comcast/Time Warner merger. Fans of the status quo in this remarkably uncompetitive industry will be thrilled to get more of the same, paying ever higher prices for much worse service than cable bundle customers in many other countries.
