Police say as she ran for cover the suspect chased her down possibly with a garden tool and assaulted her by striking her in the head and face; that’s when she shot him.
“I know she said because she lives alone that she is afraid of something like this happening,” said Hector Heredia.
Police say the suspect knocked on the front and side doors before breaking in through the back door that what happened could have ended a lot worse.
“I would say that anytime someone is in your house, they’ve assaulted you, broken into your house, and assaulted you, you would say she appears to have been in the right at this point,” said Phoenix Police spokesperson Tommy Thompson.
