Russ Campbellās Blog: Tom Mulcairās Pledge Not to Hike Personal Taxes Is MeaninglessāHeāll Use a Carbon Tax
Thomas MulĀcair, leader of the fedĀeral New DeĀmocĀrats has, reĀportĀedly, made a pledge to CanaĀdian votĀers not to raise their perĀsonal taxes if he beĀcomes prime minĀisĀter. But he wont need to raise perĀsonal inĀcome taxes, will he? Heāll imĀpleĀment a carĀbon tax.
MulĀcair made the pledge when beĀing inĀterĀviewed by the OtĀtawa CitĀiĀzen. He was exĀplainĀing why itās time for CanaĀdiĀans to elect their first fedĀeral NDP govĀernĀment. Granted, MulĀcairās NDP is the ofĀfiĀcial opĀpoĀsiĀtion, but it is trailĀing both the ConĀserĀvĀaĀtives and the LibĀerĀals so badly in any polls I have seen, his pledge does seem cheeky.
āWeāre sayĀing that perĀsonal taxes will not be touched. Thatās a firm unĀderĀtakĀing. Thatās a conĀtract with the CanaĀdian votĀing pubĀlic on our beĀhalf,ā MulĀcair said, acĀcordĀing to the OtĀtawa CitĀiĀzen.
