At least if they devote their attention to a convention, they won’t be damaging anything else-and what are the odds of such a thing actually happening?
Of course, if their outlawing of sea level changes is successful they might want to export their formula to Louisiana which is losing a lot of land to the sea every year.

I really don’t think they have thought through the consequences, much less the difficulties of a convention of states.

I keep pointing out to those who push for it that the reason we’re under our current constitution is that a convention of states was called to amend the then-existing constitution (articles of confederation) in 1787, and what we got was extraordinarily different. So, we’re going to put a number of representatives - begging the question of how we select those representatives - from 50 states in a building where they’ll work on making a better constitution through ‘amendment’.

If - and only if - they keep the existing constitution’s rules as framework then each state gets one vote (the respective states’ representatives can work out whether they’re unanimous, majority, or one voter and a lot of advisers) and if 2/3 of them agree then the results go to the states for acceptance.

But there is absolutely nothing prohibiting them creating something new with new rules of acceptance - like simple majority.

If the Federal government has “ceased to exist,” to whom will they send their petition?

I don’t see the South–or the non-Colorado Interior West, for that matter𠄻eing satisfied with much short of the original Articles of Confederation.
These folks won’t be happy until the government in Washington has less power than the one in Brussels. And they don’t want that extra power to go away, either; just to be given to the individual states, which they want about as independent as Germany or the UK…
