Russ Campbell’s Blog: Desmond Tutu Slags Off Alberta Oilsands
South African ArchÂbishop Desmond Tutu called AlÂberta’s oilÂsands “filth” while speakÂing at a conÂferÂence in Fort McÂMurÂray, Alta. on SatÂurÂday.
The ArchÂbishop, acÂcordÂing to meÂdia reÂports, also called for a boyÂcott of fosÂsil fuel comÂpaÂnies, and said he stands in solÂiÂdarÂity with comÂmuÂniÂties that are opÂposed to oilÂsands pipeline proÂjects, such as KeyÂstone XL, NorthÂern GateÂway and EnÂergy East.
ConÂtrary to what one might exÂpect, Tutu did not arÂrive in Canada by sailÂing ship. Nor did he travel to AlÂberta by wagon train. MoreÂover, once he had arÂrived at Fort McÂMurÂray, he was not shepÂherded around by horse and buggy.
