I’m cynical, I know, but I’ve long thought Shepard Smith is Fox’s “beard.” The one who occasionally steps back from the 24/7 craziness and says something sane. Good for Fox’s image.

I’d say Charles is right, given how the other 23:57 of every day is all different varieties of RWNJ, and the way that Fox hires (and fires) people, he can’t really be one of the good guys. He can only be the guy they go to when they need to NOT be entirely crazy to make them look not entirely crazy.

And that makes him potentially useful…he might accidentally make someone in the Fox audience think. But at the same time, he’d also have to be even more unscrupulous than the rest, and a better actor too.

His role kinda reminds me of Audrey O’Hanrahan from Weber’s Honor Harrington series…
