Of course all these losses matter not if the average GOP candidate has to drift so far right in actual policy just to stay in office that the tea party might as well have won.

Exactly. I see very little difference in full blown Tea Party and full blown GOP insanity. One wants to cut your throat in public, one wants to drag you out back and do it.

I concur. Please someone explain to me the difference between an official Tea Party candidate and the average Republican stated platforms, goals, and stump speech statements.

Please, someone explain the difference. I can’t see one.

That would be in the description Brookings used.

The establishment GOP candidate is the one with Stockholm Syndrome.

Thanks much for this piece, RWC, but it won’t change much around here. Its an election year and the “EBBBILL TEAGOP!!1” meme has been set.

It’s just supposed to be some objective data on the current state of the race. But sentiments are running so high these last few days. Anyway have one up for fairly taking the heat.

The Democrats are winning the GOP civil war. Please proceed.

re: #10 Decatur Deb

Winning as the obvious purveyor of truth, intent, and not being fucking insane, Yep. Got that wrapped up. Now they have to rely upon people voting for it to matter.

If you want to stop people from calling the Tea Party/GOP from being called stupid, crazy or evil, convince your fellow party members to stop supporting policies that are easily characterized as stupid, crazy or evil.

But, whenever you decide to actually make a serious attempt at that, you already know what will happen.

Honestly, I have to ask myself if the establishment is really much better from the TP. Let’s look at Cantor versus Brat shall we or McConnell versus Bevin. In fact, the TP may be a slightly less bad than the establishment because the TP may sincerely believe in what they’re doing while the establishment just jumps on to any anti Obama/Democratic cause as possible because they’re afraid of getting primaried. It’s even been pretty much conceded here that Lindsay Graham has used the Benghazi scandal not out of genuinely misguided principle but out of fear for being primaried. Same crap with McCain who was once a strong supporter of immigration reform saying build the dang fence a few years ago. I’ve got no respect at all for the GOP establishment and I hope these two sides continue to ruin each other. They deserve each other.

Har har har. This would be much more convincing if accompanied by any evidence whatsoever that the GOP is not presently sitting in a moral sewer and adding to the shit diligently.

No shit. Really, the reason why many of us have such a negative opinion of the GOP is because they keep on nominating nutcases. I’ve seen the VA GOP go from having people like Tom Davis and John Warner as its leaders to people like Ken Cuccinnelli and E.W Jackson. So yeah pardon me if I don’t think the GOP’s situation is just peachy and that’s just har har GOP is evil.
